I'm going to try firing up the blog again for 2016, especially the nature/landscape side of things. It is in desperate need of a redesign so I will be working on that while shooting for KSTV.

Unfortunately slideshows on older posts have been disabled by flickr. You can find all of my work in my gallery.

Bang On 'Em, Flex On 'Em

I haven't had the opportunity to shoot many UK games this season, but at least it frees me up to catch more local high school action. I was asked to cover the Dunkin Donuts Shootout at Lexington Catholic High School for a friend over at The Road To Rupp. The event featured UK commit Derek Willis as well as Bellarmine signee Rusty Troutman. Last night I visited the Tates Creek vs. Dunbar game. One thing I have noticed is how much these kids bang on people. I saw 7 dunks, granted 4 were by Derek Willis who is listed at 6'9". I won't say how long ago I graduated, but I'm pretty sure the New Richmond Lions weren't throwing it down like that. Times have definitely changed!

Top 12 of 2012

Month by month, some of my favorite UK moments of 2012

January: 2012 came in with a bang, or more like a thundering swat. Anthony Davis broke Kentucky's single season block record with block #84. Davis scored a career-high 27 points and blocked seven shots vs. Arkansas.

This was one of my favorite quotes of the year from Arkansas guard Mardracus Wade:

"I remember one time he just told his guys, `Just bring him in here, I'm going to block everything."'

February: UK Hoops claimed its first outright SEC title since the 1981-82 season and headed to Memorial for an impromptu celebration to cut down the nets.

 SEC Champs

March: Junior catcher Luke Maile cracked a two-run walk-off homer in the 9th to seal the Cats' victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks in the opener. The Cats went on to sweep the two time defending champs. The victory in game two brought UK's record to 20-0, breaking a school record set by both the 2007 and 2008 teams.

April: There really aren't words to adequately describe the euphoria in the Big Blue Nation as we celebrated our 8th National Title. I will never forget the atmosphere in Rupp for the championship celebration and the deafening roar of the crowd. I watched through tear-filled eyes as the banner was unfurled from Rupp's rafters.

May: On Derby Day, Kentucky Baseball's Trevor Gott collected his ninth save to set a new school single-season record vs. the visiting Florida Gators.

June & July: I took a break from UK athletics for the summer, so here's a bonus spring baseball double-shot.

After falling to LSU in game 1, the BatCats rebounded to win the series 2-1. The series victory helped the Cats recapture their #1 ranking from LSU. A school record 9496 fans turned out to support the Cats over the course of the weekend.

Hands down the best atmosphere I have seen at the Cliff, with tailgating and even a Party Deck podcast by KSR College.

August:  Kentucky Volleyball defeated Long Beach in 4 sets to win the team's third match of the weekend and capture the Kentucky Classic title.

September: The John Calipari Fantasy Experience = the most surreal and amazing 3 days of my life. I could do a top 12 of shots from Cal Camp alone and another from the Alumni Game. It is impossible to single out one image. Here is one of the most endearing. Anthony Davis and UK legend Wah Wah Jones displaying their Olympic Gold Medals.

October: One of my favorite moments from Big blue Madness... members of the seven teams that won national championships at UK before 2012 joined Coach Cal in re-raising the eight title banners.

November: UKVB took down the Ohio State Buckeyes in Round 2 of the NCAA Tournament in Memorial to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. The win was bittersweet as it marked the final appearance in Memorial by the Seniors, including three-time Libero of the Year Stephanie Klefot.

December: I can't think of a better way to end this than with the hope and promise of a new season in the new year! The Mark Stoops Era begins...

Happy New Year BBN. Go Cats!
